As I finish up my final day here at Achievo, I am remembering fond memories from my summer internship. Starting out, I had no idea what to expect, but this experience turned out to be even better than I imagined. There is a strong sense of family in the office and I felt so comfortable working with my colleagues and asking for help without feeling embarrassment. The members of the Achievo group are so encouraging and positive and I’ve learned so much from them.
I started out my internship working under Ellis, helping him to research and compile data for his upcoming presentation in China at the Global Outsourcing Summit. It was fascinating reading articles about the current state of our economy and I learned so much about the state of other countries as well. I was able to improve my skills by helping to assemble the presentation as well. After this, I stepped over to the accounting side of things. Being the daughter of a CPA, I figured I should know the basics of accounting and how the accounts work in a company. For this I worked under Mary, who showed me the importance of a tip top filing system. I learned to cut checks, input invoices in the database, and learned how to deal with AP and AR files. It was interesting to me just to learn how the finances work in a company. I’ll be able to carry on the knowledge to my future jobs.
In my time here at Achievo, we have had so much fun in and out of the office. One experience I will not forget was when we had our team bonding day at Lake Elizabeth. We were split into relay teams and had to do a paddle boat race. I had never been in one but it was so fun working together and ultimately, beating all other teams! It was awesome just to hang out with my coworkers in a different environment and get to know them all better. I also ate so much while I was working here. We had weekly team lunches and I got to try all sorts of exotic foods that I would never have tried otherwise. It was quite the experience for me and my taste buds and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One thing I really appreciated was how open everyone was to sharing advice. From the other interns I got tips on navigating my way through college in the most beneficial way. From the older members, I got valuable life lessons that I know I will carry with me always.
Overall, I had an absolutely wonderful time during my internship at Achievo. I have made so many new friends and learned many new skills. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.
